Imagining Beyond Our Limits was the theme of the 2023 Polity, Benefits, and Mission Conference, and the Reverend Dr. Frank Clark Spencer, Board President, shared in envisioning new pathways for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  

The Board of Pensions has met with over 200 mid council, congregational, and pastoral leaders on the season of rebuilding initiative. This report is intended to update the wider denomination on this important effort, taken in collaboration with the Church, to assess and redesign the Benefits Plan to better meet the needs of local congregations.

The Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) announced a Benefits Plan redesign initiative focused on flexibility, choice, and cost control. During this season of rebuilding, the Board will collaborate with the Church over the next two years to explore solutions that better address the needs of local congregations.

The PC(USA)’s financial support system for pastors was built in the 1980s and doesn’t reflect the modern church’s needs and challenges. To change this, writes the Board of Pension’s president Frank Spencer, we need to view the church differently. 

More than 110 mid council and presbytery leaders gathered with a team from The Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in Denver this week to share ideas on how to ensure that all pastoral leadership, regardless of installation status, have access to the Church’s Benefits Plan. The event was part of the season of rebuilding, a Board of Pensions initiative to find solutions that best serve the needs of the changing Church.
